Safety Certificates COI Roadworthy Inspections

Auto Centre Gold Coast is an Approved Inspection Station (AIS)

Auto Centre Gold Coast can issue Safety Certificates (formerly Roadworthy Certificates RWC) for vehicles that pass vehicle inspections.

In the State of Queensland, a safety certificate is needed when:

  • you have sold your vehicle and are transferring registration to a new owner or
  • you are transferring to Queensland registration from another state or territory or
  • you are re-registering an unregistered vehicle

Safety Certificates are valid for 2 months or 2,000 km (whichever comes first) for private sellers.

Pre-Sale Vehicle Inspection for Sellers

If you’re considering selling your vehicle, booking a Pre-Sale Inspection can be a practical first step. This inspection is designed to help you determine whether your car is truly worth selling, provide a clear idea of its current market value, and identify any necessary repairs. Knowing the potential costs of these repairs beforehand allows you to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the sale or address the issues prior to listing.

At Auto Centre Gold Coast, we offer honest and reliable advice to help you through this process. Our professional team is here to ensure you have all the information needed to present your vehicle in its best possible condition, giving you confidence in your next steps.

Vehicles We Can Certify

Vehicles requiring a safety certificate are cars, motorcycles, trailers (including caravans) with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) between 750kg and 4,500kg. Or any other vehicles up to 4,500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM).

This inspection covers the basic vehicle safety standards for many components including:

  • Tyres
  • Brakes
  • Suspension
  • Steering
  • Body damage or Rust
  • Lights
  • Windscreen

Should your vehicle fail the initial inspection then you have 14 days in which to have the items repaired. Fortunately, as we are a fully qualified automotive service and repair workshop we can fix most issues within 14 days before that inspection expires.

A safety certificate inspection is not a comprehensive mechanical inspection on the quality, or life expectancy of a vehicle. Talk to us today about the different types of inspections available at Auto Centre Gold Coast and which one will best suit your needs.

Certificate of Inspection (COI)

To ensure compliance with QLD State legislation, vehicles (buses, taxis, limousines and booked hire vehicles) registered in Queensland may need to have a periodic or programmed inspection to check minimum vehicle safety standards. A COI is valid for 12 months and is issued when the vehicle passes the inspection which will show if your vehicle is compliant and meets current safety standards.
